National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation (NATEF)
The Automotive standards have been reviewed and updated as of June, 2009. The expectation is that these revised standards will be the standards implemented for 2009-2010 and will be used for reporting those students in CTEIS.

Based on the ASE Certification for Automobile Training Programs document administered by National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation (NATEF) published 2008 all Automotive students must take Electrical/Electronics Systems as one of the specialty areas of instruction.

The teacher selects the two certification areas that they will deliver.

The areas are:

  • Electrical & Electronics Systems and Brakes
  • Electrical & Electronics Systems and Steering and Suspension
  • Electrical & Electronics Systems and Engine Performance

Note: National Cluster Foundation Skills have been updated in 2008 and include the heading of Essential Knowledge Skills as well as Foundation.

Plus Technical Standards

Plus I. ELECTRICAL / ELECTRONIC SYSTEMS
  Plus A. General Electrical System Diagnosis
    1. Complete work order to include customer information, vehicle identifying information, customer concern, related service history, cause, and correction
    2. Identify and interpret electrical/electronic system concern; determine necessary action
    3. Research applicable vehicle and service information, such as electrical/electronic system operation, vehicle service history, service precautions, and technical service bulletins
